Appleby Horse Fair one of the largest Gypsy Fairs in Europe, attended by thousands of gypsies and travellers from all over the UK. The Flash is where the horses are trotted up and down to show their physical form, attributes, control whilst put to cart and led by hand. I was lucky enough to have a lovely gypsy lady let me use her photograph of this fine pony to paint. I love the movement captured in this fleeting moment, the muscle tone, wind in his mane and the whole way the horse carries himself proudly, such a beautiful beast.
